Nasturtiums again
I am much happier with this second composition. My friend Jill gave me this wonderful hand made glass work, with its amber colour and bright red rings. It is similar in shape to Matisse's vase (in my last post), so makes a happy container for the trailing stems of nasturtium. I like the repetition of the elliptical form as well as that of colour. I put in a blue sky and the ochre of the wall, to reflect Matisse's palette.

Ooh, more nasturtiums - this is fabulous (what a gorgeous vase!) and very Matisse. You have such a great design sense which comes through strongly in this one. I like both very much, but this does seem more 'evolved' from the usual flower painting. The forms and colours that repeat, make the flowers and leaves really seem to be flying off from the vase.
(I checked my nasturtiums, they are a bit sad at the moment - I think they were detached from their roots with some trimming of the honeysuckle mixed up with them) You are doing so much lovely work while PP is away - some advantages to being alone!?
Thanks, Cath. Downloading the Matisse really helped me to work out the composition. I don't seem to do it very naturally or on my own! It is nice to have something to get absorbed in. The good thing about watercolours is I really can do them on the kitchen table between other jobs, whereas getting up to the studio always spells some hours' commitment
This one's beautiful too; without losing any of the feeling you have for the nastrutiums, you've added a designy quality that's very fresh and confident. Really lovely!!
Thanks so much Cath and Laura. I will have to find the glass painting tutorial too, esp after seeing Cath's blue glass. (If I am being Matisse today, I am allowed to make it flat!)
BTW How do you get that list that refers to other people's blogs to display? I feel discourteous not making the link, but am an internet cynic when it comes to signing on to stuff.
On your dashboard...If you go to 'Edit Layout' on the right you click 'Add a gadget' and a list of options pops up - you can pick Blog List for the one that gives you updated posts, or Link List, for just the list. Click the + sign... then you just add to your list. If you right-click on the name of the person you want to link to, and click 'Copy Shortcut' it copies the URL and you can paste it straight into your list without having to open up their page. And remember to Save Changes!
Thanks Cath. How come you're so clever? I'll see if I can do this.
And I love this too! Very fresh and lively which is what nasturtiums are. I can almost smell their pepperiness.
Hello Kari,
Thanks for your comments on both nasturtium days. They're just about universally grown aren't they? It's nice to have you call in.
I think I have worked out how to get that list up now. Thanks, Cath.
Vivienne! First let me say that your Vases of flowers are just wonderful! The bright reds are so unspoiled.
The wonderful green on the Nasturtiums are so delicious, I have added a salad to tonight's dinner.
I certainly miss growing them. All so tasty.
Now, let me say, How much I appreciate your comments on my blog for my drawing of my photo. I was so intimidated. I am finishing the grayscale. They have a difference.

I checked out your blog and enjoy your sense of humor! These nasturtiums are great. I like the first ones as well. See you around.
