VSD for October A Trio of Pears

A trio of pears: I think they might call them that in a restaurant.
I was not going to enter a sketch this month, having had a week inconducive to creativity, but hey! - a lazy wettish Saturday afternoon, a lovely photo of three pears with interesting shadows and suddenly I am on a mission.
Thank you Belinda (aha, see my linking skill!) for the irresistible subject.
Mine is watercolour, 12"X9", on Arches rough 100%cotton 140lb.

Lovely watercolour. I like it a lot.

I agree its a great image and has lots of potential for many mediums.

I haven't looked at the photo yet, am happy to enjoy your w/c. The pear shapes and fullness contrasting the delicate reflections in dish.
Perfect! I think you should also post that other painting or drawing you did years ago - a row of pears...??? Or was it eggs...?

The shadows are interesting aren't they, but I have to admit I didn't see it at first! This is super, I love the colours and the translucency.

Gorgeous work, Vivienne. The colors in the pears are great, and I like how the one on the far right seems to have been painted wetter ... The reflected color in the cast shadows is just great!

That's really beautiful.

I love these translucent, fresh green pears, and all the shapes in the shadows and reflections - beautiful. I was tempted to try this too, but was on a jacaranda mission this week - very happy to see yours!

Thanks Jeanette..I look forward to your graphite.I'd have liked to do an oil but w/c's more sociable, as I can work on the kitchen table with family around.Gillian, I think you're thinking of the pears in my version of encaustic ... Barbara I left a comment on your site but it had not come up. Loved your minimal w/c. Hello and thanks Kay, Laura, Melissa, Cathy. Kay & Melissa, I have not seen your sketches at this stage.Laura, thinking of you, I posted an old painting of one of our late cats a couple of days ago.

This is really great. You nailed the reflection within the shadow perfectly! Great painting!

Nice reflections of the pears color in the plate. This watercolor is so nicely done, makes you want to take a bite out of the pear.

beautiful transparent colors ... love it

What a fabulous shine on the plate! And the pears are wonderful too, just gorgeous! (You asked about the "spatters" on my pears - I grated a watercolor pencil across sandpaper held over the still wet painting to create them. Better control than trying to splash watercolor paint.)

The reflected pear is also perfect and I love the peachy color on the pear butt, too!

Thanks to everyone for the encouragement. Cathy, (shicat) I left a comment on your ripped pears page. Thanks so much for the tip Sharon... so clever... I'd never have thought of that! Though you used the granulation of the paint itself well, too. Mine are toooo smoooooth. I think this is probably IT until the next VSD addicts' day.

Vivienne, your pears are wonderful! This reference just seemed right for watercolor. You captured the colors in the shadow so nicely. The whole painting is well done!

Beautiful work!
I really like how you played up the green in the shadows.
